My dream is to to meet WWE Wrestler, John Cena, and watch him compete in a WWE wrestling match!
Maurice Thompson is a 9 year old living with Down Syndrome. Living with this disability has made it difficult for Maurice to make friends. His mom shared that it makes him an easy target for bullies because you can see his disability on the outside and many people don’t really give him a chance. But if you give Maurice a chance you will quickly see that he is a happy, sociable, loving child who wants to make sure everyone else is happy first.
Maurice’s sports dream was to meet WWE Wrestler, John Cena, and watch him compete in a WWE wrestling match! Cena is a huge supporter of an anti-bullying campaign and has been a role model and inspiration for Maurice because he too was once a victim of bullying.
Maurice’s friends at DDR, Inc. worked very hard to make Maurice’s surprise send off extra special! Maurice was picked up in a limo for lunch at Fuddrucker’s. When he arrived he was surprised to find his friends and family ready with signs to wish him off on his Dream Experience!
The next day the Dream Team left for New Jersey with Maurice and his family. After touching down in Jersey, the team ventured to one of the biggest and most renown toy stores in history, FAO Schawrz. Maurice had a blast exploring the store. He was greeted by Patrick, the toy solider, and given a private tour of the store.
Maurice and the team later went to WWE’s Monday Night Raw where he was able to meet his ultimate wrestling hero, John Cena! He then cheered him on as he put on the smack down!
Maurice’s Dream was led by our 2014 Volunteer of the Year, Brandy Mills! Brandy has continuously supported DO3 in many ways including networking to reach the right people for an experience and providing insights to our Social Media Director.
There are several people and organizations we would like to thank for making this Dream Experience possible:
Fuddrucker’s of Matthews, The Bradford Park Community, DDR Inc., Elegant Limousine, Teaneck Marriott
