The first Dream Experience will take place at Georgetown Preparatory School for two young Katie Ledecky fans. The recipients will have time with the Olympian before attending one of her practices.
Julia Volz, an 18-year-old from Harrisburg, NC was diagnosed with venous thrombosis (a severe brain injury) after suffering a rare stroke in her senior year of high school. “Julia’s condition has put a halt on her independence and ability to execute daily life skills. However, despite the challenges she faces, we are inspired by Julia’s diligence and tenacity and how hard she works,” says Kristin Volz, her mom. Volz, also a swimmer, has always admired Ledecky for her work ethic and ability to achieve goals that no doubt require a perseverance of its own. “Swimming has been an integral part of Julia’s life for 11 years & has been monumental in her mental, physical, & emotional recovery. Dream on 3 has granted Julia the gift of tying a tangible source of healing & happiness to an inspiring athlete. As a family, we are humbled & excited how swimming has come full circle with an unimaginable reward,” said Kristin.
Harper Scott, an 18-year-old from Kennesaw, GA lives with autism and was selected by fellow students at her high school to be the recipient of a Dream Experience. Scott is an outstanding swimmer, who competes for the school team and year-round team as well. She hopes to talk strategy with Ledecky and gain a few pointers on technique and fighting for one’s dreams, even when things get tough.
Dream On 3, DC will partner with local healthcare providers to identify children that meet program eligibility requirements and are in need of assistance in living out their sports dreams.
