Having a passion for racing and NASCAR since he was a young boy, Richard Burke now shares his love of racing with Dream On 3 Dream Kids.
THE DESIRE TO GIVE BACK
When Richard took a position at Speedway Motorsports in 2004, he did so because he wanted to pair his profession with his love of racing. At one point during his tenure, he mentioned to the receptionist that he felt this deep need to “give back” and to share what he knew and loved with children who were facing mental or physical challenges. As he was chatting with the receptionist about this desire, he noticed a plaque on the wall that had a picture of Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Dream On 3 Dream Kid, Daylan. The receptionist connected Richard with Elizabeth, co-founder and Executive Director of Dream On 3, and the rest is history!
THE REWARDS OF VOLUNTEERING
Richard started leading Dream Experiences in the Fall of 2018 and, to date, he has lead 5 experiences. Richard gets it. He completely understands that the Dream Kids are the true heroes of the Dream Experience. When Richard introduces NASCAR drivers, owners, or celebrities to a Dream Kid, he makes sure to emphasize that it is an honor and a privilege to meet that particular Dream Kid. Whether they are a decorated Special Olympian or a lifelong fan, these kids have characteristics and personalities that should be cherished… and Richard knows that.
“I feel honored to use my knowledge, experience, and the access I have professionally so that these Dream Experiences will be all that they have dreamed about”, states Richard. “I want to help make memories that will last a lifetime.”
Thank you, Richard, for reminding us (and everyone that has supported this organization) of the impact Dream On 3 is making, not only for our Dream Kids but also for those of us that are called to serve them. We are blessed to have you on our team.
